FAQs
1. Can a telehealth podiatrist order tests?
Yes, our podiatrists can refer you for diagnostic tests (such as X-rays or ultrasounds), and coordinate care with your GP or other specialists as needed. Telehealth podiatry consultations are a convenient way to access expert foot care and still receive essential treatments or investigations.

2. Do I need a referral for a telehealth podiatry appointment?
No referral is needed to book a telehealth consultation with our podiatrists. You can book directly online or by calling our clinics in Templestowe or Footscray. We provide telehealth services to patients Australia-wide — no matter your location.

3. How much does a telehealth podiatry consultation cost?
We offer two types of telehealth consultations:
-
Standard Consultation (30 mins) – $85
-
Short/Product Consultation (10 mins) – $50

Prices are fixed and payable prior to your appointment. For some services, Medicare or private health rebates may apply — see below.

4. Is bulk billing available for telehealth podiatry?
Yes — bulk billing is available for eligible patients, but certain Medicare conditions must be met.
To qualify for bulk billing, you must:
-
Have a valid Chronic Disease Management (CDM) / EPC Plan from your GP
-
Have had at least one face-to-face consultation with our podiatrist in the same calendar year (this is a strict Medicare requirement for all allied health telehealth billing)
-
Hold a valid concession card (e.g. Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, DVA card)
OR -
Be under 16 years of age

How to book a bulk-billed telehealth appointment:
-
Send us your referral and concession card details before booking.
-
We’ll verify your eligibility.
-
If approved, we’ll send you a private link to book your bulk-billed consultation.
-
Your Medicare rebate is processed after your appointment, with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

What if I don’t qualify for bulk billing?
You can still use your CDM/EPC plan and claim a Medicare rebate, even if you don’t meet our bulk billing criteria.
However, to use your care plan for telehealth, you must still have had at least one face-to-face consultation with our podiatrist in the same calendar year — this is required by Medicare.

Telehealth consultation (with rebate):
-
Consultation fee: $85
-
Medicare rebate (Item 10962): $61.80
-
Out-of-pocket gap: $23.20

How it works:
-
Pay the full $85 at the time of booking.
-
After your consultation, we submit your Medicare claim electronically.
-
Medicare refunds $61.80 to your nominated bank account.

If you're unsure about your eligibility or referral status, please contact our team before booking — we’re happy to guide you through the process.

5. Can I claim telehealth podiatry on my private health insurance?
Yes, some private health insurers cover telehealth podiatry consultations. Coverage may depend on your extras policy and insurer. We provide a coded claimable invoice after your appointment, which you can use to claim directly with your health fund.

6. Can I claim my private health on online products if I have a telehealth consultation?
Yes! One of the key benefits of our Short Telehealth Consultation—whether via phone or video—is to enable you to claim private health rebates on products.

Claim Eligibility
Private health insurers only provide rebates when a podiatry service is delivered by a registered podiatrist. This means products recommended and supplied during a consultation (in-clinic or telehealth) are eligible for private health claims.
Quick Telehealth Option
To make claiming easier, we offer a 10–15 minute telehealth prescribing consultation where:
-
A podiatrist assesses the suitability of the product,
-
Documents the recommendation in your clinical notes, and
-
Provides an invoice coded appropriately for private health claiming.

This ensures your product purchase is linked to a professional podiatry service—an essential requirement for most private health funds.

How to Claim:
-
Book a telehealth consultation with our podiatrist.
-
During the consult, the podiatrist will assess and prescribe the product as part of your care plan.
-
Once you purchase the products (within 24 hours), you’ll receive a claimable invoice coded as a podiatry service + product, which you can submit to your health fund.

Please note: It is up to your private health insurer to honour the claim number based on their policies and the HICAPS standard item codes.

Important: Products purchased without a consultation will not generate a claimable invoice and therefore cannot be claimed through private health insurance.

7. What if I need an in-person podiatry appointment?
If your condition requires hands-on assessment or treatment, we can arrange an in-clinic appointment at either our Templestowe or Footscray clinics.

We’ve been offering telehealth consultations since 2020, originally as a way to support patients during lockdowns — and we’ve continued to refine and expand this service ever since. Our telehealth consultations are now a proven and efficient way to triage, assess, and manage many foot and lower limb conditions remotely.

If we determine that in-person care is necessary, we’ll either:
-
Book you into one of our clinics, or
-
Refer you to a local podiatrist for hands-on treatment - To ensure seamless care, we’re happy to provide a handover letter so your next provider has all the necessary clinical details.

You’ll always be guided to the right level of care based on your condition — whether that’s via telehealth or in person.

9. What technology do I need for a telehealth appointment?
You’ll need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access and a camera. We use a secure and easy-to-use video platform — no downloads required. We'll send a link before your appointment.
